Police Service re-assures public to fight crime

Accra, Aug 2, GNA – The Police Service has assured the public that it would discharge its constitutional mandate by continuing to fight all manner of crime and reducing the fear of it in the country.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday and signed by DSP Cephas Arthur, Acting Public Relations Director of the Service said: “For the past couple of years the Police Service has put measures in place to confront crimes in the country and brought the level of the phenomenon under control thereby creating a peaceful environment for the people.”

It said the Service had chalked more significant successes in recent times as far as fighting armed robbery and other violent crimes were concerned.

The statement said the Police foiled a robbery attempt over the weekend on the Nsuta-Bechem road in the Brong Ahafo Region, through its operational strategies and killed one of them.

“Though the robbers unfortunately killed the driver of the bus, the robbery was prevented and two more members of the robbery gang were subsequently arrested by the Police with the assistance of the members of the community,” it added.

It said a Police Patrol Team promptly responded to a distress call that a robbery gang were attacking two passenger buses on the Tamale-Bolga road. The Police confronted them and forced them to abandon their mission and fled.

The statement noted that to effectively and successfully stamp out armed robbery there was the need for strong stakeholder collaboration and expressed appreciation to the media for their role and support in crime combat.

The statement also entreated journalists to be circumspect in reporting crime stories in order to avoid misinformation and factual inaccuracies.
