Police Service moves into proactive policing

Ho, June 10, GNA – Mr James Azuma Abass-Abaah, Commanding Officer of the National Police Training School on Saturday stated that the country’s Police Service was gradually moving into proactive policing with much emphasis on community policing.

He said this was in line with the Service’s vision of making the country a safe haven with no room for fraudsters, popularly known as ‘419’s, to operate.

Mr Abass-Abaah was inaugurating a 67-member Police Cadet Corps of Mawuko Girls Secondary School at Ho.

He said the vision would ensure that all law-abiding Ghanaians went about their legitimate activities without any hindrance. “This is to make sure that our mothers and wives can travel deep into the night and everywhere on market days without being taken unawares by highway robbers”, he said. Mr Abass-Abaah underscored the need for the individual to identify himself with the Service’s vision by volunteering information on known and suspected criminals.

He asked the cadets to be law-abiding citizens and help the school administration in maintaining law and order in the school. Mr Victor Kofi Mensah, Municipal Director of Education, in a speech read for him, cautioned the members not use their military might to cause trouble in the school. “You should not forget that you are still in school and under authorities”, he warned.

Miss Rosemond Keteku, Headmistress of the School, said the Cadet Corps was to bolster the existing school discipline.
