Police secures peace in Asawase Bye-election

Kumasi, April 21, GNA – The Police were able to restore peace quickly at the Adukrom/Mangoase Polling Centre for voting in the Asawase Constituency Bye-election to continue after a group of people allegedly attempted to cause confusion.

The Police and Military detachment sent in to control the situation had to fire warning shots and canisters before they could restore sanity to allow voting to continue.

At the time the GNA visited the Centre, armed Soldiers and Policemen had taken positions. People could be seen standing in groups holding discussions on the incident.

The Senior Police Officer in command of the detachment refused to confirm or deny whether anyone was hurt during the incident. The confusion forced the teachers and pupils of the nearby Nuiya Islamic School to close.
