Police save bloody clash between two Apam asafo companies

Apam, Sept. 25, GNA – Police intervention prevented what could have been a bloody clash between Apam Dentsi Asafo company and their Tuafo counterparts at Apam on Thursday. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Apam after taking some injured persons to the Apam Catholic Hospital, Mr. Hayford Quaye, an elder of the chief of Apam, said the misunderstanding arose when members of Tuafo Asafo Company carried one of their gods past the shrine of the Dentsi Company.

He said the town was celebrating the annual Akomasi Festival which enjoined the Dentsi Company to drum to mark the festival on Wednesday. Mr. Quaye said on Friday Tuafo Company had the chance to mark the festival and the two companies joined the towns folks to hold a grand durbar on Saturday. He said when the Tuafo Company got to the shrine of the Dentsi Company it was alleged that some of their members teased members of the Dentsi Company and this led to a fight. 25 Sept 09
