Police ready to deal with increasing crime wave in W/R.

Sekondi, May 28 – GNA – The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public that it was prepared to check the increasing number of armed robbery cases and deal with other criminal activities particular within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.

The Commanded has appealed to the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrests and prosecution of law offenders. Mr. Kofi Duku Arthur, the Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Sekondi on Friday that even though personnel of the Service were prepared to bring down the crime wave and provide adequate protection for the people, the success of all police operations depended largely on vital information from the public.

Eighteen armed robbery cases in the region were recorded in 2003, this figure almost doubled to 31in 2004, Mr. Duku disclosed. He said by March this year armed robbery cases recorded thought out the region was nine.

He said the service has evolved measures that would foster exceptionally good relationship between the Police and the general public. Meanwhile, the Command has released telephone numbers to be used by the public to contact it in case of emergency.
