Police re-arrest prisoner who escaped with handcuffs

Ajumako (C/R), July 27, GNA – Kwaku Amoah, 29, who ran away from police custody with both hands in handcuff, has been arrested at Asempanyin and handed over to the police.

Kwaku Gariba, 42, father-in-law of Amoah, Esi Saakwa, 35, and Kwaku Etuah, 24, who helped Amoah to escape at Ajumako, have also been arrested.

Two others, Kofi Adu and Kobena Adu, are on the run.

The Ajumako District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Seth Tay, said Amoah, a suspect who shot his junior brother Kojo Blankso, 25, for a game on June 22, was in police custody when he complained of ill health and was escorted to the Ajumako District Hospital.

At the hospital Gariba, Saakwa, and Etuah helped Amoah to run away, destroyed the handcuffs with the intent to send Amoah to neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire to start a new life but were arrested on July 15.
