Police put up measures to fight crime in UWR

The Upper West Regional Police Command has assured the people that the fight against crime within and outside the Region was ongoing.

The Command said as part of measures to fight crime, it has intensified police patrols, thereby enhancing police visibility within the Region.

Police posts and tent cities had also been mounted at crime prone areas such as Fian, Kojokperi and Funsi portion of the road, while it extended policing to Dobile, Danko, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Wa Polytechnic junction and the University for Development Studies campus.

The Command has also identified other equally important communities to mount police post, especially in Bamahu, Sombo and the Wa airstrip.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, made these known at the annual West African Security Services Association (WASSA) held in Wa to map out strategies to enhance security delivery in the Region.

DCOP Duku, who is also the Upper West Regional Police Commander, mentioned the stealing of motor bicycles, break-in, assault and robbery cases as the most common in the Region since the beginning of the year.

The Command experienced some robbery cases in the beginning of this year, especially around Busie-Fian-Hain road, Issa-Kojokperi road and also around Cherie communities.

The Regional Commander said day and night patrols were being carried out in all districts to ensure that criminal were fought frontally.

On projects, DCOP Duku said the Police had been provided with a clinic and with a resident physician assistant and plans were far advanced for visiting medical doctors to assist him on rotational basis.

The Police canteen had also been given a facelift with support from DKM financial institution, while constructional works on the Regional Police Headquarters at Sombo was ongoing.

DCOP Duku expressed gratitude to personnel for the good work done, especially the unrelenting efforts put up to fight crime in the communities.
