Police Probe Fatal Shooting of Teen at Amasu Galamsey Site

The Bono Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy, Issahaku Ansu, at an illegal mining site in Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.

In a statement signed by the Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when the teenager was shot by an unidentified assailant while taking part in galamsey activities.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was targeted from a nearby bush, prompting others at the site to flee,” the statement noted.

When officers arrived, they discovered Ansu’s body with multiple gunshot wounds to the back and blood coming from his nostrils. He was clad in a wine-coloured pair of boxer shorts stained with blood, which has been kept as evidence.

The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police have assured residents of Amasu and surrounding communities that every effort is being made to track down those responsible for what they described as a “gruesome act.”
