The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced an investigation into the fatal shooting incident that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 22nd 2025, at Asawase F-Line in the regional capital, Kumasi.
The incident claimed the life of the Kusasi chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe.
In a statement, police said preliminary findings indicate that he was shot and killed by two unidentified assailants, riding separate motorbikes.
They reportedly approached the victim at close range and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Naa Azenbe was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital for emergency treatment but was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.
In response to the attack, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, together with the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, and a team of officers, visited the scene to assess the situation.
During their inspection, two spent shells, suspected to have been fired from an AK-47 assault rifle, were recovered and documented as evidence.
The police command has assured the public that every effort is being made to track down the perpetrators of what they describe as a “heinous crime.”
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police by providing any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
