Police personnel urged to be honest

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza District Police Commander, has urged police men and women to be honest, fair and efficient in order to win the confidence and trust of the general public.

He emphasised the need for the personnel to work harder to commensurate the remuneration and other incentives they are enjoying under the Single Spine Salary Structure.

DSP Owusu was addressing more than 50 police officers at Nkoranza at the weekend during the celebration of the district’s annual West African Soldiers Social Security Activity (WASSA).

“As servants of the people, the nation and the people demands of you to lead exemplary lives”, he said, noting that a section of the public perceive the Police as “untrustworthy, corrupt, rude and authoritarian”.

DSP Owusu advised them to behave well to prove such people wrong and to promote decency in the service and called on the public to regard the Police as members of their communities to ensure security, peace and understanding.

In an address read for him, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the Police for ensuring peace in the communities.

He pledged that the Assembly would not relent in its efforts to support and assist the Police to discharge their duties effectively to accelerate the development of the District.

Chief Superintendent Antwi Gyau, in-charge of Techiman Municipal Police, advised police personnel to be guided by professionalism and to eschew negative practices that could tarnish the image of the service.

Six police personnel were presented with certificates and awards for their meritorious and excellent performance.

They are; Inspector Samuel Twum, adjudged as ‘best officer in command and operations’, Sergeant Enoch Afful, received the ‘over-all best worker’ award, while Corporal Francis Korku Atisu, took home the ‘best disciplined and conduct’ award.

The others are; Corporal Vida Kumi Tieko, ‘best in appearance’, Constable Samuel Osei, ‘best in guard duties’ and Mr. Vanatus Azapa, ‘best community police assistant officer’ award.
