Police officers urged to live above reproach

Wenchi (B/A), July 10, GNA – Madam Ibrahim Farizana Bintu, Wenchi District Chief Executive, has urged the police to live above reproach and eschew negative practices that would put a smear on the image of the service.

Madam Bintu was addressing police personnel at Wenchi at their annual West African States Security Association (WASSA) celebration. The District Chief Executive expressed regret about reported involvement of some police officers in criminal activities by providing arms and uniforms to robbers.

She called on the Police Administration to study the conduct of all police personnel and weed out the bad nuts whose activities and behaviour may tarnish the image of the Service.

Madam Bintu expressed appreciation for the tremendous role of the Police in maintaining peace, law and order in the country and gave the assurance that the government would continue to be proactive in efforts to help improve their infrastructure conditions.

The DCE expressed concern about the increasing cases of smuggling, armed robbery, road accidents and drug trafficking and appealed to the police to be more vigilant to nib such activities in the bud. The Police should monitor the movements of drivers and arrest those who drink while driving, as well as speeding and overloading of their vehicles, she said.

Madam Bintu said the Wenchi District Assembly had decided to renovate the bungalow of the District Police Superintendent and the police station and its quarters and that the Assembly would also construct quarters for officials of the Criminal Investigations Department at Wenchi.

Superintendent Peterson Gyinae, Acting Divisional Commander of the Wenchi Police, explained that the WASSA celebration was aimed at bringing all police personnel of the various stations together to take stock of their activities so they could improve their performance. Superintendent Gyinae gave assurance that the police would not relent in its efforts to combat crime in the communities and called on members of the public to cooperate support the Service by giving information about the movement and activities of suspects. Nana Addo Kumanini Kese, Tufohene of Wenchi called for unity among wives of the police personnel and other security staff so they would command respect from the people.
