Police officer arrested for robbery

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA – A Police officer who allegedly conspired with an armed robber to rob a businessman at a hotel in Tantra Hill, Accra on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, Police Inspector Isaac Agbenyega Luguh is with the Monitoring Unit, Greater Accra Regional Directorate while his accomplice Osei Tutu; aka Osei Wayo is at large.

The accused pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to rob and robbery.

He was remanded into prison custody to re-appear on September 16.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A. Derry told the court that the complainant was a businessman and residing at Elubo, in the Jomoro District of the Western Region.

He said on June 16, this year, the complainant came to Accra in his cab with registration number GE 7180-11, to transact business and lodged at Days Inn Hotel at Tantra Hill, Achimota.

DSP Derry said at about 2300 hours, the accused armed with a pistol and a handcuff together with his accomplice went to the hotel and arrested the complainant for an alleged robbery.

Prosecution said during the arrest the accused and his accomplice robbed the complainant of GH¢6,000 cash, a blackberry phone, a Nokia phone, a wrist-watch, bracelet, necklace and the vehicle.

DSP Derry said they handcuffed the complainant and took him to the Regional Police Directorate later to Kwame Nkrumah Circle and abandoned him.

He said the complainant lodged a complaint at the Regional Criminal Investigations Division on August 8, for investigations during which the accused was identified by the complainant and was arrested.
