Police nabs notorious armed robbery gang

Koforidua (E/R), Oct. 31, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police command has nabbed a member of an armed robbery gang, which has been terrorizing filling stations in the Region.

Briefing the media at Koforidua on Tuesday, the Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Felix Asare-Darko, said the robber, Ahamadu Buba, 29, a Fulani was arrested, when he and two other masked gang members attacked a filling station at Begoro at midnight on Oct. 26, and made away with 10.8 million cedis. According to ACP Asare-Darko, 34 cartridges, torch lights and a cash of 400,000 cedis was found on Buba at the time of his arrest. His accomplices, however, escaped.

Some filling stations in the Eastern Region, particularly those in the New Juaben Municipality, came under attack in recent times from marauding armed gangs.

A GOIL Filling station at Adweso, was on September 16, 2006, attacked by armed masked men who took away more than 27 million cedis.
