Three members of the Homeland Study Group foundation, a ‘separatist’ group in the Volta region have been arrested.
The men, including the group’s founder, Charles Kudjordji were picked by the police from the regional command on Tuesday.
Starr News understands their arrest was in connection with an event held by the group on Monday, March 6, to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day.
The group has in the last one year been campaigning for the separation of the Volta region and parts of Northern and Upper East region to form the Western Togoland state, which they claim existed before Independence in 1957.
They have held several fora to drive home their demand, including the Monday event, which they said was to remember ‘fallen heroes’ of the Independence struggle.
The regional police crime officer Supt. Seidu Adamu confirmed the arrest of the men to Starr News but declined further details.
However, a member of the group, told Starr News, their 78-year-old founder, Mr. Kudjordji has been granted bail while the two other members are still in custody.
