Police mounts search for hit and run driver

Aburi (E/R), Sept. 9, GNA – The Aburi Police and the Mampong Akuapeim police, have mounted a joint-search for a hit and run KIA vehicle driver for killing a twenty-one year old woman and injuring a teenage girl.

The deceased, Yaa Adobea, a trader at Aburi met her untimely death when the KIA truck knocked her and the teenager, Baraba Tia, 13, on the main Accra Akropong new road on August 31, 2008. Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Aburi on Monday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Agyenin Boateng, Commander in charge of Mampong Akuapeim District, said the incident occurred at about 0730 hours.

He said the police at Aburi received a phone call after the incident from an eye-witness. ASP Boateng said the two were rushed to the Mampong Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital but Adobea died later. He said Baraba Tia, who suffered severe injury, has however, been treated and discharged. ASP Boateng said the Aburi and Mampong police were still investigating into the cause of the accident and arrest the runaway driver. 9 Sept. 08
