Kasoa (C/R), Nov. 19, GNA – Two more armed robbers have been arrested by a joint Police/Military team in another operation at Kasoa within four days.
They were Mohamed Alhassan, aged 21, unemployed and Osumanu Ibrahim, 20, both from Kasoa. The police is looking for the third person, who took to his heels.
The Kasoa District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Adalong told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday that, Alhassan and Ibrahim pleaded guilty to loitering charges, when they appeared before a magistrate’s court at Awutu but they were asked to reappear before the court on December 2, 2004 for sentence.
They would however, appear before a circuit court on the armed robbery charges later, the police commander said.
According to ASP Adalong, on November 16, 2004, the three armed-robbers attacked one Madam Aku Sika, a businesswoman from Accra, who had come to Kasoa to collect 7.5 million cedis from her mother, at Kasoa-Accra Lorry Station at about 1900 hours and robbed her of the amount.
He said that a Good Samaritan, Osei Akoto Baah, who went to the aid of the woman, was attacked and stabbed on his head and back by the robbers before they bolted away with the booty.
ASP Adalong said the following day, a joint Police/Military Patrol team on night patrol duties met the three suspects late in the night and decided to arrest them for loitering but one managed to escape and the two were arrested.
The Police Commander said that at the Police station Baah identified them as the robbers who stabbed him, while Madam Sika also later identified them as the thieves who attacked and robbed her of her money.
He earlier on Monday, the team had arrested five armed robbers in a similar operation at Kasoa.
