Police justifies killing during Adenta demolition

The Greater Accra Police command has justified the killing of a young man during a demolition exercise at Adenta, Accra, on Monday.

According to the Police, the man was a member of a gang of land guards who attempted to attack a Police man with a machete during the demolition exercise.

Speaking to XYZ News, DSP Freeman Tettey said the police had no choice than to shoot in self-defense after the young man attempted to slash a policeman with his machete.

But the family of the young man has denied that he was a member of a gang of land guards who attacked the Policeman.

A family member who spoke to Radio XYZ stated that his relative was married with two children and only approached the Police to ask some questions regarding the demolition exercise.

However, DSP Freeman Tettey insists that the young man was a land guard according to information available to them.

“There wasn’t any option than resorting to a measure that the person deserved because if you attack a weapon wielding Policeman with another weapon, obviously the response would be firing which unfortunately led to his death”.

“We cannot take responsibility for this,” DSP Freeman Tettey said.

Three other persons were also arrested in the exercise.
