Accra, July 11, GNA – The Police Striking Force and Stopper 7 Units on Sunday thwarted an attempt by an animal dealer from the Bongo District in the Upper East Region from selling unwholesome goat meat and mutton to the unsuspected public.
The police who were on their usual rounds intercepted more than 17 goats and a sheep, which were sick, weak and draped in mud at the Mortuary Road in Accra after being beaten by the rains on the way to the old slaughterhouse in Accra.
The police said they saw the animals, some of which were already dead and some freshly slaughtered by the street and were heaped near Saint Mary Senior School being loaded on a trolley to be conveyed to the old slaughterhouse at the beach.
Mr Atia Atinga, who claimed ownership of the animals told the GNA that he took the action to save the animals which were beaten by rain on their long journey to Accra to recoup his investment.
He produced documents covering the conveyance of the animals and that the animals were only weak.
Both the owner and his goods were sent to the Korle Bu Police Station for further investigations.
