Police Inspectors due for promotions appeal to the IGP

Cape Coast, July 21, GNA – A number of Police Inspectors in Cape Cost and Winneba due for promotions over the past seven years are appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP)and the Police Administration to use their good offices to ensure their promotion.

They contended that they had not committed any crime against the State or the Police Service.

This came up when the Ghana News Agency interviewed some of the aggrieved police personnel whose names are being withheld for security reasons.

According to them the last promotion for Inspectors to the rank of Chief Inspector in the Police Service was made in 2008 under the administration of the then IGP, Patrick Acheampong.

The aggrieved Inspectors said from that period to date several promotions had been done for other ranks, including Constables to Lance Corporals, from Corporals to Sergeants and Sergeants to Inspectors.

They indicated that in September 2010, they attended a promotion course at the Police College alongside Chief Inspectors who had ever since been promoted.

They further stated that in April 2011, a similar course was conducted for Sergeants who were due for promotion to Inspectors and that they too had been promoted, leaving the Inspectors.

In this regard, the Inspectors who felt they had unjustifiably been denied their promotions, appealed to the high office of the IGP and the Police Administration to address their plight without further delay.

They indicated that they would be glad to know from the Police Administration if they had committed any crime against the State for which they were being denied promotion.
