Police in Central Region intensify road safety campaign

Mumford (C/R), July 4, GNA – The Apam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A. Gyamiah, has appealed to commercial vehicle owners to fix affordable daily sales for their drivers so they will not e in a hurry on the road in order to meet their sale target.

DSP Gyamiah also called on vehicle owners to agree with their drivers to set aside a day for maintaining the vehicles. He was addressing a forum of commercial drivers and other road users from Apam, Gomoa Ankamu and Mumford at Mumford on Thursday. The forum was organized at the instance of the police in compliance to a directive from the Central Regional Police Command as part of efforts to intensify road safety education to avert fatal accidents being recorded in the Region. DSP Gyamiah appealed to the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) to ensure that only prospective drivers who passed driving test were issued with licences.

He admonished the drivers against loading vehicles which were not road worthy. The District Police Commander advised floating drivers to join unions of their choice to enhance easy identification and also for them to enjoy professional facilities granted them Police Inspector Louis Benjamin Allotey, in charge of Accident Squad, cautioned drivers against giving their vehicles to unlicensed and inexperienced persons.

The leadership of the three unions at Apam, Ankamu and Mumford pledged to cooperate with the police in reducing road accidents in the District.
