Police hunts for suspected Fulani murderers

Sunyani March 2, GNA – The Brong Ahafo Regional Police have mounted a search for seven Fulani herdsmen who allegedly attacked and killed Mananyi Grumah, a 60-year-old farmer, on his farm at Dawadawa No Two, in the Kintampo North District.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kwaku Ayensu Opare Addo, the Regional Police Commander, confirmed the story to the GNA on phone and said security personnel had been deployed to the area to maintain peace and order.

He said on February 28 this year, the deceased was working on his farm when he saw the herdsmen and their cows passing through his farm so he attempted to stop them but they became offended and severely assaulted him.

DCP Addo said the suspected assailants inflicted cutlass wounds on the deceased killing him instantly and a witness in the case reported the matter to the deceased’s family.

He said when residents of Dawadawa heard of the murder, they mobilised into a group and armed with guns and cutlasses members of the faction attacked three communities where the Fulanis and their families lived and set fire to their houses.

DCP Addo said the police found the bodies of four Fulanis in the bush and they had been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital, whilst six others who had gunshot wounds were on admission at the hospital.

He said security personnel made up of the police and the military had been deployed to the area to maintain law and order. DCP Addo said 32 out of the 106 suspects, who were initially arrested, had been placed in police custody to assist in investigations, after screening while the rest were granted police enquiry bail. He said some of the suspects were armed with bows, arrows, guns, catapults and cutlasses and possessed Indian hemp. DCP Addo gave the assurance that the police were doing their best to arrest the suspects, believed to be hiding in the bush. 2 March 07
