Police grab carpenter for defiling a 13-year-old girl

The circuit court in Tarkwa has remanded a 28-year-old carpenter, Isaac Kaakyire, into prison custody for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the court on January 28.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Regina Appiah, was a trader and mother of the victim who schooled and lived at Afukey village near Prestea, while the accused was a resident in the same community and a tenant in the same house with the victim.

Inspector Amponsah said the victim visited the complainant during one of her school vacations who detected some abnormal behavior in her.

He said when the complainant examined her closely she found out that she was bleeding and discharging whitish fluid from her vagina.

Inspector Amponsah said when the complainant sent the victim to the Prestea government hospital for treatment, a medical examination revealed that she had been defiled.

The Prosecutor said when the victim was questioned; she mentioned the accused as the one who had sex with her on August 8, last year after he had sent her to buy 50 pesewas worth of bread for him whiles he was in his room.

He said the victim alleged that the accused pleaded with her to allow him hold her breast but she refused and he held her mouth and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, after which he told her not to tell anyone about the incident.

According to Inspector Amponsah, a report was made to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offense.
