Police grab 35 commercial sex workers

The police have arrested 35 commercial sex workers at Awoshie, Accra, for allegedly engaging in immoral conduct.

The suspects, between the ages of 18 and 27, are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.

Items retrieved by the police from their rooms included quantities of condoms and sex materials.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Osabarima Oware Asare Pinkro III, confirmed the arrest to The Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.

He said the Regional Police Command received information about the activities of the women, and when they were nabbed, the police retrieved from them sex materials.

The Regional Police Commander said investigations into the case were ongoing.

In another development, DCOP Osabarima Asare Pinkro said the Regional Police Command arrested a man, who allegedly butchered his wife’s 29-year-old niece, at La in Accra.

He said the suspect only identified as Rex, was reported to have killed Christina Yaa and absconded.

The Regional Police Commander said the police received a report from Mercy Okaine, a resident of La, that the husband had killed her niece.

DCOP Osabarima Asare Pinkro said when the police went to crime scene, they saw blood stains and found the cutlass used in committing the crime.

He indicated that when the police went to the La General Hospital, they saw deceased with multiple cutlass wounds on the hands, face and back.

DCOP Osabarima Asare Pinkro said the body had been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Regional Police Commander appealed to the public to volunteer information to the police to assist in the arrest of the suspect.
