Police file injunction against AFRC demo

The planned demonstration by the Alliance for Responsible Citizens (AFRC) has suffered a setback as a police officer has filed an injunction in court to have it stopped.

AFRC had planned to demonstrate against the National Media Commission (NMC) over sanctions imposed on some 131 radio stations across the country, but the police asked for some last minute changes to the route they had planned to use after earlier granting an approval.

The AFRC rescheduled the demonstration for November 6, but ACP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has filed a motion for a restraining order against the group “in the interest of the public safety and security”.

The court will decide on the matter on Nov 1, 2017.
