Police fight drug trade in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit is calling on the public to provide them with leads in order to arrest drug peddlers in the region.

The region in recent times has gained notoriety in drug trade compelling the unit to embark on a series of swoops in several known ‘ghettos’ in the metropolis to flush out these peddlers.

Police’s operations subsequently led to the arrest of junkies and barons in areas such as Tinka, Suame, Tafo and Krofrom all suburbs within the Kumasi Metropolis.

This comes on the heels of the arrest of baroness by Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit at the weekend with 500 wraps of cocaine on a transit to Manso, a mining community in the region.

Commander for the Unit, ASP Jeremiah Alale disclosed to Ultimate News, the Police can only win the battle against drugs with public support.

He indicated that a clamp down on drugs will have a great impact on curbing violent crime within the metropolis and beyond.
