Accra, Sept 6, GNA – The Police Administration on Tuesday announced that it had set up a Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPSB) headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police to specifically deal with all public complaints against police.
A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)Mr David Eklu for the Police Public Relations Directorate said that the Police Administration would welcome any formal complaints on bribery, corruption, oppression or intimidation against any Police officer.
The statement noted that at a recent forum at the British Council Hall some members of the public accused the police of extortion, unlawful detention and human rights abuses.
The statement advised members of the public who had suffered such abuses at the hands of the police to report to the unit or the Police Public Relations Directorate for appropriate redress.
“This would be without any prejudice to any legal action that the victims may want to take.” It added.
The statement said any such complaint should be addressed to the Director/PIPS at the Police Headquarters in Accra, and on telephone number 776435.
