Police Dump Body In Mortuary For Over A Year

The Police at Tadzewu in the Volta Region are embroiled in a fierce litigation with the family of a suspect who died in police cells more than a year ago. The Police have, consequently, dumped the body in the morgue at the Abor Weme Catholic Hospital while the family of the deceased, Klutse Klobortu, pursue alternative means to compel the police to disclose the cause of death.

The family has refused to accept the body for burial until they are satisfied with the “true cause of his death.”

Klobortu died in Tadzewu Police cells four days after he had been detained and denied bail, allegedly on the instructions of the chief of Dekpor Horme, Togbe Adela Darteh, also known as Yaw Tetteh.

Though the family has petitioned CHRAJ at Ho, the commission’s circumstances leading to his death in police cells is in limbo due to the commission’s inability to lay hands on the autopsy report from the Police Hospital.

Klutsse Klobortu was arrested at the instance of Togbe Adela Darteh III and was denied bail until his mysterious death.

The family of the deceased petitioned CHARAJ to intervene in the matter to investigate thoroughly the cause of Klobortu’s untimely death in order to bring all the suspects to face the full rigours of the Law.

CHRAJ, which has on many occasions petitioned the police to assist it get to the bottom of the matter without success, has dragged the police to court with the view to quickening its investigation to ensure that justice is not denied the bereaved family.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Mr. Kofi Arthur, told The Weekend Heritage that he had written to the medical director of the Police Hospital to liaise with the Pathologist, Dr. L.A. Adussei, to submit his written report to enhance investigation into the matter.
