Police dismisses reports recent murders are serial killings

The Ashanti regional police have rejected reports that recent murders are as a result of serial killings.

About four persons have been murdered in the region under bizarre circumstances over the past one month, but the police say the incidents are unrelated.

Some residents and a section of the media have attributed the killings to the work of a serial killer and are accusing the police of failing to hunt down the criminals.

Ashanti regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yussif Tanko, told Joy News the accusations are unfounded.

According to him, “in the Ash Town incident for example, we’ve been able to arrest about four suspects who are linked to the murder and also in the Dekyemso incident, we’ve been able to arrest perpetrators.”

ASP Tanko added that, the police have “been able to arrest the guys who perpetrated the murder at Bantama that is the Ashford Hotel incident where the security man was shot dead. Also there was a murdered case at Tawaba we’ve been able to resolve all that.”

He urged the media not to create undue fear and panic and called on “the population that they should be patient with us, they should give us time and the necessary information that we need to conduct our investigations.”
