Police deploy 350 more men in Kumasi

The police in Kumasi yesterday deployed an additional 350 men drawn from various parts of the country to strengthen the position of the men already on the ground to control the activities of the gangsters terrorizing residents of Kumasi. Mr Ofosu-Mensah Gyeabour, assistant commissioner of police in charge of Ashanti Region, told the paper that 100 of the policemen came from other parts of the region, while the remaining 250 were from the Greater Accra, Eastern and Brong Ahafo Regions.

He said the physical presence of the police and military officers in the city would help prevent any further disturbances.

The Allah Bar and Ashtown areas, where the terror gangs have been operating were calm yesterday morning and normal activities resumed.

Dr Addo-Kufuor, minister for defence, held a series of discussions with the chiefs of the Zongo communities, who pledged their support for an action that would help to flush out the gangsters.
