Police Corporal granted bail for fraud.

Tema, May 03, GNA – A 52-year-old Police Corporal at Tema Railways and Ports Police station who took 24 million cedis to secure a seaman’s job for a man has been granted 50 million cedis bail by the Tema Circuit Court “A”.

Corporal Alfred Osman Ankobra has pleaded not guilty to a charge of fraud by false pretence and will re-appear on May 12, 2004. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on January 2003, the complainant, Mr George K. Addai got in touch with the accused through one Ampadu during which, the accused convinced the complainant that he could get him a job.

She said the accused told the complainant that if he could afford 24 million cedis, he could get him to work in a ship. The complainant became convinced and parted with the amount to the Police Corporal but he neither honoured his promise nor refunded the money and a report was made to the police.
