Police Constable remanded for giving handcuff to suspected robber

Tema, May 10, GNA – Ebenezer Budu, a police constable of Tema Community 18 police, was on Wednesday remanded for handing over a police handcuff to a suspected armed robber.

Budu pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment of wrongful possession and would reappear on May 17.

The accused was remanded together with Kofi Frimpong, unemployed who also pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of police property.

District Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka stated that on April 28 police personnel from the Criminal Investigative Department had information that suspected armed robbers who took part in the raiding of Emajet Forex Bureau on the Spintex road in Accra were hiding at Nungua. On April 29 the police arrested Frimpong and a search on him revealed a police handcuff number 10586 and a military cap. When cautioned, Frimpong mentioned Budu as the one who gave him the handcuff.
