Police constable arrested for robbery in Wa

A general police constable Ernest Koranteng with Service Number PC43060 is in the grips of the Wa police for his alleged involvement in robbery in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West region.

The policeman is among a gang of three robbers who attempted robbing a resident at Kpaguri a suburb of the municipality of his “Mapouka” motorbike but were overpowered by the victim who is also a security officer in one of the establishments in the area.

When all efforts to disposes him of the motorbike failed because they had been overpowered, they tried fleeing the scene after an alarm had been raised but the victim held onto the suspect who after a serious struggle freed himself from harm.

His bunch of Identity Cards, including his NHIS card (12134982) and Service ID Card gave him up as they were discovered on the scene of the struggle by the victim who lodged an official complaint with the police and deposited them as evidence.

The Wa police are tight-lipped over the matter when reached for their comments. They disclosed to ultimatefmonline.com that the matter is currently being investigated by the Regional CID to unmask the other two said to be on the run.

The suspect, who was picked up on Wednesday, is in police detention awaiting appearance before court.

It comes on the heels of claims by the Ghana Police service societal and family pressures are to blame for the increasing number of personnel engaging in lawlessness including fraud and robbery.

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the intense pressure and demands from family and society on policemen is to blame.
