Police concerned with health of suspects in custody

Kumasi (Ash), May 11, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit has assured the public, suspects and relatives of suspects in police custody that, the police have a responsibility to care for the welfare of suspects in custody.

The police have therefore urged all suspects or their families to provide the police with details of their health status and of all ailments they are suffering, or of permanent disabilities. These were contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr Jordan Quaye, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Public Relations Unit) in Kumasi on Friday.

The statement mentioned for example asthma, tuberculosis, chronic sores, ulcers and even those on special medications and medically prescribed diets in order to sustain their good health.

The statement said: “Most suspects for reasons best known to themselves or the stigma surrounding ailments, keep it to themselves and later break down, collapse, faint, convulse or charge in excess fury at the least provocation by their cell inmates, resulting in various degrees of injury or casualty”.
