The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned against the firing of live ammunition instead of using gunpowder or blank rounds as the festivities for the 2025 Homowo begins.
This was contained in a statement which highlighted public safety ahead of the official lifting of the customary ban on drumming and noise-making, today, Thursday, June 12, at Gbese, Blohum, and Abola within the Ga State.
Traditionally, the lifting of the ban includes the firing of musketry as part of the celebration.
A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, urged all celebrants to strictly refrain from using live ammunitions, warning that any individual found engaging in such acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police Command revealed it is collaborating closely with traditional authorities, including the Gbese Mantse, and event organisers to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration.
They have therefore urged the public to comply with safety directives, cooperate with police, and report any unlawful activities.
