Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Odame, the Akwatia Divisional Commander, has given assurance that his outfit would not relent in their efforts to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the Denkyembuor District.
“In this regard, we are stepping up our foot and mobile patrols and to organize frequent swoops to rid the district of miscreants,” he said.
DSP Odame gave the assurance during this year’s West African Security Services Association (WASSA) celebration at Akwatia on Thursday.
The District Police Commander called for support and cooperation from all stakeholders and residents of the area to maintain maximum security “since security is a shared responsibility.
DSP Odame described 2012 as “indeed a trying moment for the Ghana Police Service” but God saw us through even to the admiration of all Ghanaians and the international communities.
He said through the co-operation of the people within the district, especially the political parties, and with the support of the Denkyembuor and Kwaebibirem District Assemblies and the West Akyem Municipal Assembly, the Akwatia Police was able to provide appropriate and effective security during and after the general elections.
“However, it did not come on a silver platter, but through dedication to duty on the part of the men in uniform who brought their services closer to the people that they serve,” he said.
DSP Odame said since the service was a human institution, the Police could not claim to have performed 100 percent during the year and said they would accept any constructive criticisms and suggestions that would enhance their service.
Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, the Kade District Court Magistrate, said the conduct of one policeman in the district was an epitome of the service itself, urging them to work in line with the service’ motto of “service with integrity”.
Mr R.A Osae and Mr Kwaku Ofori-Abroakwa, District Chief Executives (DCEs) of Denkyembuor and Kwaebibirem respectively, commended the Police in the area for their excellent performance and promised their assemblies’ support to them at all times.
Some policemen who distinguished themselves during the year received citations.
They included, General Lance Corporal Rexford Apiagyei, Martin Nimo, Kofi Korankye, General Corporal Godfried Anin, Inspector Samuel Tetteh, Inspector Stanley Ahiable and Chief Inspector D.T. Nartey.
