Police arrests unemployed for alleged murder

A 21-year-old unemployed, George Nartey, alias Afolo-Waz, will be arraigned before a Takoradi Circuit court today for allegedly killing a 19-year-old teenager during a brawl over money.

The suspect was alleged to have handed a hefty blow to Mamoud Musah, the deceased, during a fight on September 20, at Ahanta road in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The Takoradi District Police Commander, Superintendent Edward Konyel, confirmed the tragic incident to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi.

Narrating the incident, Police Supt. Konyel said a quarrel ensued between Nartey and Musah over alleged destruction of the former’s head-phone worth GHc60 by the latter.

However, Musah promised to pay the cost of the item, but after several months, failed to honour his promise.

He said on September 20, this year, Nartey saw Musah with money ready to buy food from a food vendor at Ahanta road, a suburb of Takoradi.

The suspect confronted the deceased and asked him to pay the amount he promised, but a quarrel ensued between them, resulting in a fierce fight and the suspect handed a hefty blow to the deceased.

Unfortunately, Musah fell from the impact of the blow, and hit his head on a metal plate, which was buried underground and became unconscious.

Supt. Konyel said Musah was rushed to the Air Force Base Clinic for medical treatment, however, after the medical team assessed the extent of the injury he was transferred to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital the next day, but died few hours on arrival.

A report was, therefore, made to the police and Nartey was subsequently arrested.

The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
