Police arrests suspected car snatcher

The Techiman Police have arrested a suspected armed robber, Abdul Rahman Karim, 29, for snatching a taxi at a knife point at a location between Chiraa and Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Tuesday that, the incident occurred on last Sunday at about 1200 hours.

He said Rahman and his accomplice now at large, hired the cab with registration Number GT5714-13 driven by one Prince Evans from Sunyani to Wenchi.

ASP Tawiah said on reaching a spot between Chiraa and Wenchi, Karim pointed a knife at the driver and ordered him to stop the vehicle.

He said the two tied the driver with a rope, put a plaster on his mouth and pushed him out of the vehicle and sped off towards Techiman but a Good Samaritan spotted the victim on the ground and assisted him to untie the rope

ASP Tawiah said victim rushed to the Wenchi Police Station to report the matter, adding that Police wireless message was therefore sent to all the barriers and Police check points in the Region and the car was arrested at Techiman.

He said a kitchen knife, pair of scissors, screw drivers, several car keys and ropes as some of the items retrieved from Karim on his arrest.
