Two men have been arrested in connection with a disturbing murder in the Tema Harbour area of Ghana’s Greater Accra Region, police confirmed on Sunday.
The arrests come after the lifeless body of a man was discovered in the industrial enclave on Friday, 30 May. The grim find triggered a swift police response, and an investigation was immediately launched.
In a statement, the Tema Regional Police Command revealed that during the course of their investigation, they received an alarming tip-off, a man had reportedly been caught carrying a human head.
Officers rushed to the second scene, where they found members of the public had apprehended a suspect, identified as Ali Mustapha. He was rescued from the angry crowd and taken into custody.
Further police work led to the arrest of a second suspect, Zakaria Mohammed. Both men are now being held while investigations continue.
Authorities have deposited the victim’s body at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established.
Police say efforts are underway to trace the victim’s next of kin and piece together the events that led to the killing.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many residents expressing fear and concern over the chilling nature of the crime.
The Tema Regional Command is urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
