Police arrest three persons for possession of firearms

Three persons have been arrested by the police at Half-Assini in the Jomoro District of the Western Region for possessing arms.

They are Abukali Salifu, 26, Kweku Yakubu, 28, and Kofi Gurumah, 25.

Superintendent John Ferguson, District Police Commander, confirmed the arrest to Ghana News Agency at Half-Assini.

He said the police arrested the suspects who claimed to be farm labourers and hail from Manso in the Ashanti Region, at Cocoa town, a border town near Cote d’Ivoire.

Supt. Dzineku said the suspects were found in the possession of two locally-manufactured pistols, and a resident of the town informed the police leading to their arrest.

He said Abukali claimed ownership of the pistols.

Supt. Dzineku said the number of armed robbery incidents have been recorded at the Elubo – Takoradi highway.
