Police arrest suspected armed robbers

Sunyani, July 27, GNA – The Wenchi Police have arrested five suspected armed robbers, including a police corporal, at Jema-Timpong near Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The suspects, who are in police custody are: Corporal Albert Opoku Agyeman, of Effiduase Police Station, in the Ashanti Region, Kennedy Mensah, Adamu Seidu (Junior), John Dakori and Francis Agbo. Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Public Relations Officer, told journalists that on July 24,this year, the Wenchi police were informed that armed robbers have attacked people at Jema-Timpong near Wenchi.

Police personnel who were dispatched to the scene were told by passengers of a truck loaded with empty tomato boxes that they have been attacked by the robbers.

Inspector Tawiah said Mr Charles Owusu, driver of the vehicle and his mate Mr. Emmanuel Amponsah, showed gun wounds to the police. He said during a search the police intercepted a bus with foreign registration number, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
