Police arrest robbers during Bugum festival

Three young men who allegedly went on a robbery spree, during the celebration of this year’s annual celebration of Bugum (fire) festival in Kumasi by Dagombas, have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

Superintendent Frank Abrokwa, Acting Manhyia Divisional Commander, during a media encounter gave the name of the suspects as Abdul Aziz alias “Young Shatter” 17, Nasiru Alhassan, known as “Loko”, 18 and 20- year- old Fatau Yakubu popularly known as “Soldier”.

Armed with sharp knives, they were said to have robbed Edith Timila, Zinab Alhassan and Alimatu Mohammed of their mobile phones and unspecified amounts of cash.

They run out of luck as they were caught right in the act, when the police was alerted.

During a search, Alimatu’s phone was found on Aziz. The three suspects are assisting the police to arrest their accomplices.

Supt Abrokwah has called on victims of the robbery to report to the Zongo police station for the suspects to be prosecuted.

The three suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigations are completed.
