Police arrest man behind Accra Mall ‘terrorist attack’

The police are holding in custody a man, 30, believed to be behind the false alarm of terrorist attack at Accra Mall.

Messages on social media on Sunday, September 24 broke out about a terrorist attack at Accra Mall.

This created fear and panic and nearly destabilized business activities at the Mall, the police said. But the suspect behind the hoax has been arrested in Offinso in the Ashanti Region.

He was arrested at a hideout on Wednesday, November 1. A statement issued by the Director General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, ASP David Eklu, on Friday said the man in custody is helping in investigations.

“The Police wishes to once again caution the general public to desist from the use of prank and also assure all that the Police have the capacity to fish out persons who circulate false news on social media and other platforms in relation to issues that can have national security implications.”
