Police arrest five policemen for defrauding a Chinese

Five policemen have been arrested and remanded into police custody for allegedly defrauding a Chinese national of GHS2, 000 at Tarkwa in the Western Region.

They are Lance Corporal Sackey Naih Korley, Constable Kweku Assah, Constable Jerotira Everek, Constable Patrick Nimafo and Constable Richard Baah. One civilian accomplice only named as Richard is on the run.

The Regional Public Relation Officer of Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police Olivia Ewurabena Adiku confirmed the arrest to Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Sekondi.

She said the five policemen and one civilian went to the residence of a Chinese national, Dai Ning Sheng at Tarkwa Cyanide at about 2130 hours on Sunday April 7, at gun-point and demanded GHS10, 000 from him.

The police said Sheng managed to give them GHS2000 but unknown to them, he had installed a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera in his house. He, therefore, captured the incident and reported the incident to the Tarkwa police and presented the CCTV photographs to the personnel for viewing.

The five policemen were identified and apprehended while an amount of GHS1, 500 was retrieved from them. Police investigation is underway and would soon put the accused persons before court.
