Police arrest armed robber after gun battle

Nyinahin (Ash), Dec 20, GNA-The Nyinahin police patrol team last Saturday succeeded in arresting one member of a gang of three armed robbers who mounted a road block on the Antwiadjeikrom Junction-Nyameyehene feeder road after a fierce exchange of gun fire. Police gave the name of the arrested robber as Maxwell Kofi Nsiah and have mounted an intensive search for the remaining two robbers. Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Nyinahin in the Atwima district on Thursday, Police Inspector G.K. Letsah, said at about 1.30 am last Saturday, the patrol team encountered three armed robbers, who had mounted a road block and were demanding money from six passengers in a taxi cab.

He said when the robbers saw the patrol team, they opened fire on them and the police replied.

Inspector Letsah said after a fierce gun battle, the police managed to arrest Nsiah but the other two fled. He said when Nsiah was searched, an Italian made pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a mask and torchlight were found on him. Inspector Letsah said Nsiah during interrogation, mentioned his other accomplices and their base and the police were therefore, searching for them.
