Police arrest ‘abortion specialist’

Kofi Amenyo, a 21-year-old driver’s mate, who claims to be an abortion specialist, has been arrested by Ho Police for allegedly trying to solicit clients among students of OLA Girls Secondary School, Ho.

Amenyo, who was apprehended by the school’s security personnel on October 24, claimed he was capable of performing abortions and treating waist pains and gonorrhoea.

A student of Mawuli Secondary School, who allegedly wrote an advertisement notice for Amenyo, has also been arrested as an accomplice. Mr Albert Kofi Acquah, Volta Regional Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that Amenyo engaged the student to write a summary advertising message for him regarding his capabilities as a herbalist as an abortion specialist.

Mr Acquah said that, armed with the write-up, Amenyo went to OLA campus to look for interested customers but was arrested by the school’s security after a student to whom he showed the write-up referred him to the watchmen.

The Regional Crime Officer said the note directed interested clients to consult Amenyo at the Liberty Video Centre, near the Ho Central Market. Mr Acquah said the student told the Police that Amenyo, who is his friend, approached him for the write-up without explaining his intentions to him.
