Aflao, Oct.21, GNA – The Police in an early Friday morning swoop arrested 25 people including currency traffickers at the Aflao-Togo border and other locations within the Ketu District. The suspects included three women.
The operation, “Flush Out” led by Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander and Mr Simon Kasu, Keta Divisional Police Commander, involved 94 Police personnel drawn from Keta, Akatsi, Dzodze, Ho, Sogakope and Aflao.
It was the biggest police exercise focused on Glidzi near Agbozume, areas around the Ghana-Togo frontier, and Beats Four, Nine, Pillars Six and Five, in Aflao.
Quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, cash in various denominations and a crowbar were seized.
Police sources at Aflao told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that, increase in robbery cases between Aflao and Akatsi on the Aflao-Accra highway and between Tokor-Denu and Dzodze on the Aflao-Ho trunk road and stealing at Aflao prompted the operation. The sources said the three women were arrested at Glidzi, where some ex-convicts suspected to be responsible for recent robberies between Agbozume and Wheta were resident.
Mr Samuel Sackitey, Aflao District Police Commander said the suspects would be screened and those found culpable arraigned before the courts.
He said the exercise would be sustained and extended to other parts of the region to reduce criminal activities.
