Police Applicants Fail English Test

The majority of the people who have thronged the Kumasi Police Depot to enlist into the Ghana Police Service in the ongoing exercise have been disqualified. This is because they failed to meet the basic criteria of aggregate “E” (pass) marks in English language and Mathematics of the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Inspector Yussif Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer has said. He said that a lot of people mostly youths had reported for the exercise but they had not been able to meet the basic criteria. He therefore advised the youth to take their studies seriously in school in order to do well in examinations. The Ghana Police Service has embarked on a nationwide exercise to recruit about 2,000 people to augment its strength.

Out of the number, 1,200 will be for general police duties while the rest will perform professional duties. Inspector Tanko said the service has also strengthened its internal mechanism to flush out criminals and people with suspicious characters who will attempt to take advantage of the exercise to be enlisted to advance their hidden agenda.

According to Inspector Tanko, finger prints of all those seeking enlistment would be taken and forwarded to the finger print unit of the service for screening and verification of their backgrounds.
