The Tafo-Pankrono Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Domaban, has appealed for continued public support to safeguard the peace and security of the society.
People should not only be bold to provide useful leads to help clamp down on those who have chosen to live outside the law, he said, but must assist the crime fight through the formation of neighbourhood watch committees.
He said the police did not have enough men to be everywhere at the same time to ensure law and order and that is why such committees were important.
Chief Supt Domaban was speaking at a ceremony to officially induct some community heads and courtiers, appointed to help the Sarkin Zongo to perform his traditional duties at Old-Tafo in Kumasi.
He noted that crime in the area had reduced and said this had been largely due to the intensified patrols by the police.
That would not, however, make them complacent, he assured, but they would continue to work with passion and high sense of professionalism to significantly bring down crime.
Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo-Pankrono, urged all to accept to uphold the rule of law, saying, that was the path travel to ensure peace and harmony.
He pledged his determination to work hard to bring progress to improve on the living conditions of the people.
Alhaji Seidu Chibsah, the Sarkin Zongo, advised people in the Zongos to unite and work together to make things better in their communities.
He expressed worry about the insanitary conditions under which many of them were living and said that necessarily had to change to prevent an epidemic.
He appealed to the metropolitan authorities to act firmly to demolish unauthorized structures blocking access roads in the area.
The haphazard manner, the physical structures had been erected, tended to make it difficult, almost impossible, for fire fighters to respond to emergencies, the chief said, and asked for remedies.
The Sarkin Zongo asked the people, who were mostly Muslims, to give their children formal education.
