Police angered by ‘Chronicle’ report on promotions

The Ghana Police Service has expressed anger at a publication in the Thursday edition of The Chronicle newspaper, alleging that the police administration led by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, is deliberately delaying promotions of some senior officers.

But in a fit of anger in reaction to the story, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Reverend David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, the Director General of Police Public Affairs, condemned the publication saying: “The current police administration is all out to ensure that our personnel are trained to undertake the challenges that they face especially when personnel are being promoted to another rank.”

DCOP Ampah-Bennin announced that the first batch of senior officers and chief superintendents are scheduled to undergo training and assessment on February 17, 2014.

He said that is in line with the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 76 binding the Service.

“Every other rank that need to be promoted will also go through such processes and this we are doing to ensure that they are adequately trained and prepared to be able to command the new roles that they will occupy,” DCOP Ampah-Bennin said on Friday, January 31, 2014, when 12 shelters at ECOWAS-approved police barriers were opened at Nungua, Ashaiman, Amrahia, Ayi Mensah and Nsawam.
