Police advised to respect rights of the people

Sunyani (Brong Ahafo), 22 Feb. ?99- The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Mr R.K. Safo-Kwarteng has called on police personnel to respect the constitutional rights of the people and exhibit a high sense of self discipline in order to win the support and co-operation of the public.

He said the ability of the police to effectively maintain law and order is dependent on the level of confidence between them and the public hence the need for personnel of the service to conduct themselves in a manner that would win them the support of the people.

Mr Safo-Kwarteng was speaking in Sunyani at the weekend during the celebration of this year’s “Wassa”, the annual get-together of policemen. He urged the public to report any policeman who misconducts himself to the regional police command for redress. Mr Safo-Kwarteng deplored the disrespectful and unco- operative attitudes of some people towards the police, saying this situation undermines public order.

The Regional Minister, Mr Donald Adabre, who was the guest speaker, commended police personnel in the region for their hard work which has helped to make the people to live in peace.
